I generally agree with both mrsann and MrP. I think an underlying problem with the currently anticipated approach for a new manager joining any club is that they are almost required to implement their tactics and staff and ring the changes with the players straight from the off. Liam demonstrated there wasn't an underlying problem with the quality of players we had. What I would like to see is Mr Welsh not going down Bielsa's "my route is the only route" mentality, but take into account the ideas of clearly bright, astute tactician in the form of Liam Tongue.

Utterly lacklustre display. We still don't have a natural goal scorer. Can't understand why Murphy doesn't start ahead of Denton. He's almost as good in the air and puts a real shift in. Denton must be the slowest player in the league. He's more of a late sub for me in case we need to lump the ball forward.

Gabriel Johnson is a natural goalscorer (he even scored a really sharp, skilful finish in this game, just the ref had blown)... but he was playing so far behind Denton and the wingers that we hardly ever saw him in the box against Gainsborough.

Agree. Forgot about Johnson. Maybe because he never got in the game like all others. If you play Denton, you need someone in and around him.

I really like Denton and what he does for the team, but a few people I saw on Saturday were wondering whether Gabriel had been scoring his goals with Kallan in the team instead (and two up front), and if so then frankly we should go back to that 442 and just accept that some teams will thrash us because we're short in midfield.

Denton should be a sub, brought on when a change of approach is required.
The trouble with starting him is that you can't take him off when chasing the game as he's always likely to pop up with a goal, but that also means it's impossible to change the style of play during the game.
Better, therefore, to start with Murphy and Johnson and bring Denton on for a late aerial bombardment if needed.
