Massive disappointment
We were out fought and out thought by a team playing direct football on a lively 3G pitch whilst we attempted and largely failed to string two passes together.
Flattered it was only 3-1.
Emmett the one bright performance tonight.

Really poor tonight. Both goals in first half were from our mistakes. Only tested keeper once early on and then when they went dowm to 10 in last few minutes.
Stockton were easily the better team playing direct on a dodgey 3G pitch, causing us problems and bossing the game with relative ease.
One to forget & move on to Macclesfield.

I sincerely hope that was the first and last gutless performance I witness from Guiseley this season.

Nobody better than Guiseley at following a performance full of optimism with a sobering reality check. Just not our night in a number of ways- a couple of gift wrapped chances for Stockton which were duly taken, very poor passing display, numerous refereeing decisions not going our way, and a number of uncharacteristically below par individual performances.
An opportunity to experiment on Saturday in my opinion, with essentially a free hit away at the heavy favourites to win the league. I would like to see Jack Emmett and Adriano Moke given a shot from the start, as both looked very bright when introduced.
Think the match also highlighted the desperate need for a strong, target like front man to partner Thewlis, who looked bereft of support and had to try and carve out his own opportunities. Hopefully we can bounce back sharply.

Nice club - rudimentary setup but all clean, fans were very friendly and make a noise (it’s Teesside, you’d expect no less). Funny surface too, it didn’t seem to play as well as BPA’s plastic pitch.
Their team are huge, very fit, aggressive and confident. A stronger ref wouldn’t have let them mow players down quite so much, but that’s not why we lost.
We looked so much better passing the ball than hoofing it long but we panicked under the press and couldn’t hold onto possession. We didn’t stretch them much at all and conceded two bad goals.
Oddly I think Workington would’ve given them a better game than we did.
A learning experience hopefully!

A worrying performance - we were well beaten by a side that looked fitter, stronger, more determined and had a better game plan than us. We handled their press badly, passed the ball very badly especially in the first half and gave two stupid goals away which effectively handed the game to Stockton who were never put under significant pressure in the game. Some really poor individual performances in my view. Also highlighted the need to get a replacement for the injured Wright in the central striker role - someone to hold the ball up and get others such as Thewlis into the game. Early days and no need to panic yet but I would expect changes for Saturday.

Could it have been simply a case of underestimating an opponent that was only recently promoted? Hopefully nothing more than a wake-up call to remind them that they will have to work hard to win promotion.
That said, the front line does look lightweight and could certainly use a physical presence. Ideally someone who is strong *and* mobile, not just very big like Denton.

We didn’t handle their pressing game at all well and gave two very soft goals away that were caused by individual errors. Therefore Stockton were never put under any real pressure. Bower was right to say we dominated the last half hour but we were three goals down by then and Stockton were happy to sit back (which he did also say, to be fair).

We had space to play it beyond for Lufudu but the long balls went centrally and to head/chest which was easy for their big centre backs. I was surprised how deep into the game they continued to press, but the main thing for me was they had a weird pitch with a perfect style/game plan to play on it. Other teams will take notice. We were slow to adapt.

Pitch was an issue for us last night, something which Stockton are obviously used to playing on. BPA's pitch was a lot better to play on last year. No idea how long these 3G pitches last before they have to be redone, but their pitch was laid in March 2016 it seems.

The pitch is obviously something that has been commented on before, their supporters poo pooed us when we compared it to others. Yes a nice set up maybe the pitch suffers from being ground share. On a personal note, ladies these days go to football and need facilities,an after thought of a cubicle tucked away in the corner of the gents doesn't really cut it when you're all queuing together at half time.

Not our night on the road last night. Stockton were well up for it and you could see they were well drilled and pressed relentlessly all night and fully deserved their victory. They dominated the first half but Cracknell had little to do until a long ball was pumped forward and bounced short of the box, there was Sweet to slot into the empty goal. Kendall came close with a powerful header which was well saved by Harker's legs in the home goal. We had a couple of corners and half chances, Longbottom shot straight at Harker with a volley on the end of Ackroyd's looped cross. The hosts got their second when we gave up possession at the back, Sweet in the right place at the right time to double his tally after Cracknell made a good save. The second half started on a sour note when the ref pointed to the spot. Thompson struck well into the bottom corner past a full stretch Cracknell. A triple change seemed to reviatlise our fortunes with Lufudu and Emmett driving at the tiring hosts. Emmett forced Harker into a save with his fingertips and Lufudu shot from range. It was Emmett who pulled one back when Lufudu used his pace to burn past the Stockton backline and find the former Harrogate Town man who lifted the ball into the roof of the net. It wasn't a sign of things to come though as the hosts held on to their two goal advantage with ten men after Gallacher had been sent off before the goal for a reckless challenge. We move on to Macclesfield away on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

Disappointing result. Poor goals to concede. Some positives. We’ll have a better idea after next Tuesday what to expect from this Guiseley. Not sure if it’s the filming of their highlights but it looked very dark and in need of more powerful floodlights as well as a new pitch….
