I and every other Guiseley supporter was delighted not just by the result but by the performance of the squad today. We beat a top of the league Ashton team whose reputation as a strong team preceeds them and did it in an entertaining and determined way,it really does auger well for our season. Yes we had a MOM but not one of the starting eleven or our exceptional subs bench failed to do their job.

Really good performance.
Not a weak link in the side.
Not the biggest crowd but a good atmosphere including the visiting supporters who took it on the chin and smiled and were gracious in defeat.
What non league football is all about.
Top day all round.

Well that makes three wins in a row (that I’ve missed) and nine goals scored in them (from what I heard on Mixlr). A good week to be a lion, well done to everyone involved!

What an enjoyable match! First defeat for Ashton this season! We played with conviction and tenacity and never gave up. We spent a huge proportion of the first half in Ashtons end. This Guiseley team is really starting to gel, every single player contributed to the resounding win. Look forward to the draw for the next round, hope we get a home game. COYL 🦁🦁🦁

Agree with the positivity (though don’t want to appear too evangelical Ivor!)
We played some excellent football, weathered a tricky spell, and asserted ourselves when we got the second goal. I’d say it was a real all round team performance too with some superb displays. Mbeka’s last ditch interception, Lufudu’s track back tackle and several Ekpolo challenges could make a nice video collection of great defending. Great shot from Lufudu for the second, and credit to Johnson for keeping his nerve while the Ashton bench lost their heads. I think it was a tricky game for the referee and he made some questionable decisions but in my mind nothing that was critical to the game. However I need to look up the rule on the penalty as it was a clear pull back that denied a goalscoring opportunity and I thought that would be a red rather than the yellow issued - I can only assume there is a double jeopardy issue.
We kept our calm and control - Ashton are a good side but I thought we frustrated them till they lost their composure and gave away many fouls, picked up cards (correctly), and were deservedly beaten - and I like to think I call a game as I see it.
Moke was the radio team/listeners choice for mom and it was spot on. He is quite the player. Control and composure in midfield.
Very happy tonight with the direction of travel. The players deserve their team night out which I’m sure will be enjoyed even more so on the back of that result/performance.

Definitely our most complete performance of the season in what was a very tricky tie on paper. It was interesting that Denton started for Ashton (he hasn’t started any of their matches so far this season) as that defined Ashton’s approach and meant they couldn’t play with a high press and were reliant on long balls from the back, both of which played into Guiseley’s hands and allowed them to pass the ball around in midfield which was done very effectively for the first half hour and yielded a scruffy goal made by Lufudu and smuggled over the goal line by Longbottom. Last 15 minutes of the half Guiseley lost the initiative and allowed Ashton to play their way into the match and although they created little a gilt edged chance that was missed just before half time to send the teams in level at the break that was all. In the second half Guiseley seized back the initiative and a super finish by Lufudu made it 2-0. Denton went off and Ashton changed their approach but also became more physical. From where I was standing behind the goal the penalty looked softish but we have been on the wrong end of a couple of softish penalties already this season so things even out over time. Ashton’s discipline went and six yellows and two reds for them in the match was ridiculous - and the referee was lenient!!
Very happy with the defending today - almost faultless and a deserved clean sheet. Excellent performances throughout the team but I have to single out Adriano Moke who has been superb in the last three matches and links the play through the team so well. Very positive last 8 days and it looks like it’s coming together as a team now. Hopefully a decent draw in the next round of the FA Cup

We dominated from start to finish today. Some fantastic performances all over the pitch and there looks to be a great spirit and sense of togetherness in the squad.

I would call this a “Statement” performance. Beating the top-of-the-table-unbeaten-so-far relatively comfortably. Accepting Ashton didn’t have a couple of their star players but we only really gave them a sniff when the ref played what seemed like an eternity of additional time in the first half. Second goal was a thing of beauty. Like CPD, we’ve seen those penalties not given and as for Gabby’s penalty, best move on. Excellent result and performance. Choosing MoM must have been difficult. And nice to see Mr “Biggest shorts ever” Rankin in the ground. Come on the 🦁

What would be everyone’s ideal second round qualifying draw?

Another great day to be a Lion, it felt similar to the Workington game in that we looked comfortable from start to finish. After a fast start we took the lead ten minutes in when Lufudu’s persistence was rewarded and Longbottom poked in from close range. An Ashton injury disrupted the flow of the game and the half petered out with Ashton edging into the contest but the ball spent a lot more time up at the Railway End of the ground. Again we started the second half well through Moke’s stunning finish just eight minutes in and that looked to have ended the match as a contest. Then ten minutes later it really was game over when Johnson was pulled back in the box. It looked as if Mbeka was lining up to take the penalty but it was Johnson who took it, the Ashton stopper O’Keefe made a good save but Johnson was there to convert the rebound. Just before the penalty the Ashton bench lost their heads and McCourt got his second yellow and a member of staff received two cautions in a few seconds to be sent down the tunnel. The game was done and for a change we could relax in the final few minutes with our comfortable lead. A great team performance and win in what on paper looked a very tricky tie against a side we do not have a good record against. Well played Guiseley! Onto Hyde United at home on Saturday and a rare free midweek. Come on Guiseley! AB

What would be everyone’s ideal second round qualifying draw? Home and winnable for Rounds 2 & 3 and then Macc at home in Round 4. I’d love a cup run if honest and think we have a squad to achieve. Talking to one of the Ashtons lads whilst walking home, their aim is promotion and I guess based on today that should be ours…

What would be everyone’s ideal second round qualifying draw? Call me cold hearted but I just want to progress, so a home tie against an out of form lower division side whose potential banana skin status is removed by last minute injuries to key players. Failing that, Newcastle Town because I don’t remember us playing them before.

Ideally I’d love winnable ties in 2,3 and 4 - however that’s really unlikely. If we were to get to 4QR and get a plum tie I’d like something similar to Grimsby away (in 2014 I think), where we travel to an ex EFL club we haven’t previously been to. I guess that would be the likes of Oldham, Rochdale, or Scunthorpe.

If you fancy a chuckle then watch Steve Cunningham’s post match interview on you tube which was clearly given just after consuming a large bunch of sour grapes. It’s always amusing when someone who has just lost and is angry and disappointed tries to make out that they don’t really care anyway!!
