I assume we are offering contracts to Callery and Crossly? does that mean our new signings dont believe in their own ability! If this is the case your comments seem contradictory Wayne. If other clubs are going to be offering contracts to these players why would they stick around, the point made about feeling wanted is valid IMHO. Sounds to me like the management want their cake and to eat it, or they are putting very good spin on what is actually going on!

The management seem to try to make any unpopular decision the fault of the players . i.e Wayne says The fact that Steve hasnt heard from anyone makes you think they would rather play elsewhere possibly on contract than fight for their places at Guiseley.
I think Hay, Sturdy and Dunning have fought for their places all season havent they? and new players brought to the club have certainly not been any better than them. James Cotterill a very good player has been on the bench and Sturdy in the team, yet he is allowed to leave I cant understand the logic. If they leave and I wouldnt blame them, it will be our loss and I wish them all the best.

I think that given the opportunity to take a contract it would be foolish not to. Unless of course you didn't want to be tied to whoever offered the contract.

Obviously I should have stayed quiet. All we are trying to do is improve the team and sometimes to do that unpopular decisions have to be made.Looking back over the last 2 seasons we havent been good enough, that cant be denied,so we are trying to rectify that and get what everybody wants which is a team challenging for promotion to BSN.Bear with us as over the coming weeks there will be some very good additions to the squad which will hopefully receive a more enthusiastic response.

This is the sticking point isn't it being prepared to back your own judgement and offer contracts before others snatch them up. My understanding of it is that the others can hang around and see if a chance to play is forthcoming or go somewhere you know you are wanted no contest then is it and the best of luck to all who have been good and loyal to the club.

Boselecta.Danny Ellis,Piotr Skiba,James Cotterill,Dave Merris and James Hanson are all contracted to Guiseley for the coming season. As you can see the spine of the team is in good shape and now we have to add a little bit more quality around these guys.Others are staying with us but on a non contract basis.

Wayne,99% of fans on this forum want Guiseley to do well.Like you.!!!!!But to be successfull in this league you need a very big squad, look at Fleetwoods,Gatesheads,Wittons.Massive!!!!All we need is the backing from above(not god Adam)and im sure we can go places next season. So please ,please, please , think twice before letting very good players leave this great club...

We have thought more than twice about players leaving, these decisions are very difficult especially after getting to know these lads.I wont criticise any of them cos they are all great lads but we have to try and distance ourselves from that, look at a bigger picture and try our best to improve. We do have to improve because finishing 20 odd points behind Fleetwood isnt where we want to be and if anything the league has got harder,we cant afford to stand sill otherwise you end up going backwards hence looking at players from higher leagues to help us try and reach our goal.

I must admit that i am surprised we havent tried to keep sturdy, nathan even if others are going to come in,then we would have competition for places which can only be healthy for the team.....? But i get the feeling that the management have made their desicions....we will see?

Some good points from Wayne, I thought. Last season's team clearly contained a few players operating within their 'comfort zones', and in many games (certainly since Dominic's departure) we seemed to lack the spark to make things happen.
What does worry me a bit is what looks like a reliance on signing players from Conference sides. Certainly class and experience are important, but I'd say from watching the effective teams in this division over the years that 'hunger' is more so. Players with the ambition to take themselves to the next level, to prove pro clubs wrong in letting them go, or simply to be part of their local team's success, have always formed the backbone of GFC's - and others' - winning sides.
Anyway, the best of luck, and rest assured that however much we chunter all true Guiseley fans are willing you to forge a promotion-winning squad.

I'll take removal of your last nights post as confirmation that you were a little worse for wear then last night Yeadoner. Shame it was quite moving. Brought a tear to my eye (from laughter of course).

Some brave if unpopular decisions but as Wayne says we have to move on if we are to achieve Conference football instead of being 'nearly men' once again. Management is all about backing your own judgement and doing what you think is right and he and Steve will either stand or fall by their decisions. Come next April I hope we're all standing by them!
