FA Cup Qualy. Round, Replay Marine 3 v GUISELEY 0 Tuesday 05 Sep. ‘23
Even before KO, this seemed a tall order with just the starting eleven and a goalie on the subs’ bench plus Joe Stacey (who didn’t warm up.) We did have Murphy and Denton and Prince and Miguel, which offered promise. Miguel did quite well overall. But, within about 90 seconds of the KO we were 1-0 down! Major problem! Yet during the first half we played some decent attacking football. Then, in the second half we lost a second and realistic hopes died. Later there was yet another red card, (to go with recent reds to others) this time for Tom Denton. Marine got a third, and nearly got a fourth…but for a brilliant save by the Lions’ keeper. With only the bare bones of a team it might be unfair to criticise those who did play in purple. At least we don’t have to worry about Spennymoor and…now we’re out of the cup….what’s that cliche….oh yes, it leaves us free…..’to concentrate on the league!’ But, for PP it’s another bad result. I am reminded Alex Ferguson used to talk of managers, having their coats on a ‘shooglie peg’ in such circumstances!

Chance to earn a bit of extra dosh for a club like ours .... but no.
Sounds like we didnt really creat a clear-cut chance over 180 mins. A few chances that didn't really trouble their keeper is not good.

It was always a tough draw, although let’s be honest we are supposed to both be playoff contenders in the same division.

3 wins in 20 now and 1 win in 8 this season and mostly dreadful performances, not to mention a complete lack of on field discipline. Either of those stats would get virtually any manager fired. Pretty straightforward decision for the board in my view. Act now while there is still time to salvage something from the season.

Style of play is only getting us more injuries and we can't keep eleven players on the field at the moment. We were down to 14 for tonights game and it's only early September, it's just like the Cox era but at least we got a cup run out of him. Something has to change before it's too late.

You said in an earlier post bigj that you were watching the Academy tonight ? Did you go and how did they go on ??
As for Marine replay no surprise really think board should be looking at replacement for PP now !! We are looking like relegation fodder at the moment.

When did we last win a few games and look good without Lewis Whitham? Remove him from the last year and it begins to look very Emperor’s New Clothes.
I’m sure we’ll scratch out a result or two here or there to prolong things but I can’t find the evidence I need to believe there’s a plan underneath that will work. Certainly not one that’s so likely to get us promoted that it justifies the terrible spectacle of watching a lot of our games, or the lack of discipline, or the cynical approach that has gained us so much attention from the referees, or the constant churn of players who are signed and deemed useless days later.

The board must by now have heard every excuse going from Mr.Phillips about why all the wonderful rhetoric spouted at the beginning of the season was just that hot air.
He needs to go and I'm not an O'Neil fan but he has brought to the club decent experienced players and that's what he was brought in to do so maybe he could make a better fist of it this time round as manager of those players.
He at least appears to be less of an egotist.

This season needs rescuing and fast no hanging around till Christmas or else we will for sure not have enough time for these players to show us what I think they are more than capable of properly managed and treated like grown ups.

Another resounding loss, another sending off! Time for the directors to get a grip and make management changes before we become the laughing stock of the league. We need to get back to playing quality and skilful football and it’s not going to happen under PP.

Match has been switched to Thursday as Worsboroughs first team are at home tommorow evening but I'll let you know the result. |

Also, we have just been knocked out of the FA Cup at the earliest stage since 2005- another quite sobering fact.

In 9 months nothing has changed for the better. I suspect nothing will change while O'Neill remains the power behind the throne.
