I don’t know if we do this at NPL level but we used to have a retained list. More than happy with the announcements so far. As Nik says hope we can find an experienced head to play alongside Jameel. Tom P never lived up to his reputation, bit like that other Mancunian (Marsh) I wouldn’t have had Phil Marsh on my bingo card for this thread!

I really hope he’s in a position to enjoy his football now, after all the work he’s done.

I'm delighted to see Mr Whitham has also re-signed. It's very positive that so many players are re-signing, which would indicate that there is a good deal of confidence amongst them in the set-up and prospects for the forthcoming season. I don't remember so many players being confirmed as being retained by this stage in recent years.

More great news today that Lewis Whitham has signed a new contract and Rachel carried out a good interview with him which you can read here: guiseleyafc.co.uk/whitham-is-up-for-more/Hopefully Lewis is back doing what he does best in no time after a year of injury hell. AB

It appears from social media that Tom Pratt and Aiden Walker are off to pastures new. Pratt is a puzzle, obviously a good player but didn’t really impact games except for that one mad red card. Walker is maybe a shame? Tidy, level headed player. I thought we struggled at times with lack of command/leadership at the back though so his replacement is an important signing to make. I think in fairness to Pratt, I think the situation at the club didn't help last season. Different managers obviously wanted different things of their wingers and that was probably the position we saw the most player turnover. I always thought he had promise but he wasn't the sort of player to knock the ball past his man and use his pace and I think that was what Welsh was looking for. Hopefully with the right men in charge next season things will be a little less disfunctional.

We're losing one of the best midfielders in the NPL imo and all because of our last managers obsession with speedy wingers, of which only one of them played with any consistency. Add to that a glut of defensive midfield players and we were crying out for the creativity in midfield that Callum could have provided.

Callum's a strange case. I feel like I'm the only regular who never spoke to him while he was kicking around the ground on matchdays.
What led to Andy completely freezing him out I don't know, and nor do I know why he didn't cut him loose if he wasn't going to use him.
Naming kids in the matchday squad ahead of Pratt and Chippendale seemed to lead to Pratt getting his loan move, but Callum was still there week after week. He's a decent player and will be handy for another club, but I wouldn't stay here if I were him.

Prince Ekpolo has signed a new contract for the coming season! The 2023/24 Craig Shearstone Guiseley AFC Supporters' Club Player of the Season has signed up for his fifth campaign with the club. Another good interview by Rachel here: guiseleyafc.co.uk/prince-ekpolo-agrees-new-lions-contract/AB

We’ve got half a team before the middle of May! At this rate I think we’ll have nearly 50 players signed by the time of the first league game.

My personal ‘must retain ‘ list was only Ible, Ekpolo, Whitham and Brown so I’m pretty happy how things are going so far! I’m ok with Johnson but he needs a decent striker playing alongside him to be really effective. Regarding the players who appear to have departed I think it’s important to remember the record shows that we had a squad good enough to finish 10th last season and that we took just 17 points from a possible 54 from the nine teams that finished ahead of us in the league - so that suggests some significant squad changes needed to be challenging near the top of the league next season. We must assume at this stage that Bower and Boshell will bring in better quality than that which is departing.

It will be interesting to see how Bowser-Bosh line the team. I always thought we played 4-4-2. Strong defence. Hard-working midfield. It’ll be interesting to see who they bring in and whether they bring in any of their old BPA contingent. I think it’s very encouraging that those who’ve signed on are talking about challenging for promotion and seem enthused to work with B&B and their plans for the squad. Exciting times. I’d have kept a few more than CDP but mainly for squad depth (eg the Irish boys) but whether they’d accept a squad role who knows?
