At the end of last season the Club said that they were looking to be more open so what about a retained/offers/departed list regarding last seasons playing staff? Or do we really have to rely on someone spotting a social media post/blog and then do our own interpretation of what's going on? Otherwise it's like flippin Cleudo and my money's on Paul Coxup with a wedge of cash in the study!

At risk of sounding naive, I thought that most organisations, and I assume most potential contractors, prefer to not disclose the details of negotiations until the final outcome.

I’m not a fan of some the vitriol being sent the way of Dominic Tear, because he decided to play for a club higher up the league than us. (Like it or not that’s where we are now…) This is going to happen more and more over the next few weeks, as players more than capable of playing NLN football take offers higher than we can afford. I don’t blame them - a footballers career is short, and at this level, not that well paid. They have to chase the money while they can and that doesn’t leave a lot of room for sentiment. We’ve seen players with far more mercenary intent than Dominic Tear over the last few years (looking at you, 90% of Paul C*x’s signings). He was played out of position for most of his time with us, and still managed to score some vital goals. I got the feeling he did his best, but suffered from not quite being allowed to play in a system that suited him. Maybe he’ll find that at Scarborough. But there’s no point getting angry with him, he’s just doing what’s best for his career, and be honest, you’d do the same. Fully agree with this on Dom Tear, he has accepted an offer from a club in a higher league than us and not that far away too so from his point of view it makes perfect sense. The criticism seemed unusual and uncalled for to me. AB

What makes us any different?

What makes us any different? Well, we’re not in the National League North any more! Seriously though, while negotiations are ongoing with presumably the entirety of last seasons squad, it’s pointless releasing any kind of list as it’d be out of date almost immediately. Anyone who watched last season could take an educated guess at who would’ve been offered a new contract, and who would be first out the door.

I am as keen as anyone else as to find out who has been retained/released/contracted. Does anyone have a list of last season's players and the terms they were contracted under e.g. 2-years, 1-year, to the end of season, pay-as you-play, etc?
I ask, as I was surprised when Brad Nicholson left reasonably late in the season, and to find that he was not under contract.
Were the club more forthcoming about such details in the past?

Very observant, but season in, season out the communication from the club regarding contracts and retained/released etc is/has been poor at best. So what's your educated guess at who will be offered a new contract and who will be first out of the door? I watched last season and I'm none the wiser.

Sometimes more, sometimes less, usually steered by the manager (when I was involved, anyway) but whoever it is we’re generally on the less forthcoming end of the spectrum. I only remember announcements about Felix and Thewlis and latterly JJ’s contracts. In fairness, if your players are non-contract then you wouldn’t advertise that because it’s too easy for them to move if another club realises. (Although now they all have agents I expect that’s less of an issue than it was - ten years ago there weren’t so many agents involved down here)

Two easy ones for starters - has Josh signed for Wigan, iIf not is he still in our first team plans? His strike partner Jacob Hebda succesfully led the line on loan at Hemsworth MW so has he been retained or signed for them?

So what's your educated guess at who will be offered a new contract and who will be first out of the door? I watched last season and I'm none the wiser. I agree with Nik - 'The Club' has historically always played it's cards close to it's chest on this sort of thing. "In fairness, if your players are non-contract then you wouldn’t advertise that because it’s too easy for them to move if another club realises." I've always suspected it has more to do with the underhanded nature of transfers at this level than any deliberate misdirection on our part. Okay, I'll have a pop at it - (and I'd use the word 'educated' pretty loosely here, obviously this is just my opinion. Trust me, no-one tells me nothing) Take out the loan players from last seasons squad and that's a big chunk of them gone in one fell swoop - while I get they can be a benefit to a club like ours, too many can just hack people off. For example, I suspect Gratton and Hull came as a package, and were recalled because Gratton wasn't getting the game time his parent club were expecting. I'd say it's reasonable to expect that the majority of last years squad have been offered a new deal of one sort or another - stands to reason that if Dominic Tear was, George Cantrill was. And if George was, why not Andy Hollins, Hamza Bencherif, Regan Hutchinson or Kaine Felix. These would be excellent players to keep at NPL level if they can be persuaded to do so. That said, it does not mean they all accepted those new deals, because they are capable of playing at a higher level (or at least their agent tells them they can, anyway). The ones that haven't declared either way yet are likely considering other offers, or seeing what's out there. Again, this isn't unusual - these young men need to make the most of their relatively short time as footballers, and a newly relegated Guiseley may not be the best offer on the table right now. We need to come to terms with this, I'm afraid. John Johnstone signed a 18 month deal, so is presumably still contracted - if he were to move we'd get some money for him, at least. (Ant potential buyer might want to include a 'minimum 10 passes per game' clause, however) No idea about Josh Stones but I'd expect to see him turning out for Wigan's under 23 team next year. Hope we got some cash for him. If I were the Danny's, I'd have faith enough in the young players like Lambton, Brown, Metcalfe, Hey, Hebda etc, and I'd look to hang on to Bailey Thompson who must be itching for an injury free run in a team. reasonable to assume they've been offered decent terms to stay, with a great chance of plenty of game time next year with a manager they know and presumably have some faith in. Think the signing of Adam Haw is a step in this direction. While I don't think we've just 'let' any leave, I'd suggest it's fair to say some are worth fighting harder for than others. Players who are geographically further away probably don't fit in with the new ethos - that will most likely see Kaine out the door this summer. Lebrun looks like he's on his way, though just because he's not stopping with us, doesn't mean it's decided where he'll end up just yet. So (IMO) we offered new deals to; Ollie Brown, Regan Hutchinson, Andy Hollins, Hamza Bencherif, Oli Reape, Harrison Leigh, Ellis Farrar, Ethan Cartwright, Lewis Hey, George Cantrill, Oli Metcalfe, Kaine Felix, Shaun Tuton, Jakub Hebda, Bailey Thompson. I'd expect Hutchinson, Cantrill, Felix to move on to play higher up the league (though if any of them stayed that'd be brilliant), and I'd expect the others to be considering other offers (Ollie Brown and George Cantrill share the same agent as Mbeka, Ekpolo and Tear - reasonable to assume they're working to get them the best deal possible) Again, this is just what I think.

It has today been confirmed that Lebrun Mbeka and Hamza Bencherif have left the club.
Lebrun has joined Boston United and Hamza Bencherif has signed for Worksop Town.
Two players who have given this club an awful lot, Lebrun has come on leaps and bounds and played in several different posititions during his time with us whilst Hamza's leadership has been extremely valuable.
Good luck Lebrun and Hamza!
It has also been confirmed that a full retained list will be published in the coming days.

It’s a good move for Lebrun so long as he accepts that next year his feet are only for standing on.
We never gave him a run in a consistent position in the team but he gave his best and played with a smile so no hard feelings from me!
